Description
Lagangarbh (Gaelic: Lagan Garbh, meaning “the rough hollow”) was originally a simple crofter’s cottage in Glencoe. Its name comes from the small hollow in which it sits, at the foot of Buachaille Etive Mòr, one of Scotland’s most iconic mountains.
In 1946, the Scottish Mountaineering Club leased the abandoned croft from the National Trust for Scotland and converted it into a mountaineering hut. Since then, Lagangarbh has served as a welcoming refuge for climbers, hillwalkers, and photographers exploring the dramatic peaks and glens of the surrounding area.
The hut is still managed by the SMC today and remains one of the best-known bothies in Scotland due to its picture-perfect setting: the tiny white building dwarfed by the mighty pyramid of Stob Dearg, framed by the River Coupall and the rugged Highland terrain.
